Spring and Summer Party Themes You Should Try

By Brittany Loeffler on May 28, 2018

As the weather gets warmer, people want to spend more time outside and socializing with friends. It’s a great opportunity for you to throw a party so you and your friends can get together and enjoy the beautiful weather. You don’t want to throw just any old party though. You want to throw the best party!

What makes a party a great party? A theme, of course. It’s fun to get in the spirit of party themes and maybe dress up. We’ve come up with some creative party themes that are perfect for spring and summer that you and your friends will love.

Hawaiian Luau

One of the best party themes you can have during the summer is a Hawaiian luau. Have your guests come in Hawaiian shirts or grass hula skirts to really get into the spirit. Make tropical drinks and serve roasted ham, unless you want to go all out and have a pig roast. Chop up some pineapple for your guests to snack on. Don’t forget the colorful, tropical drinks!

If you’re looking for an activity for your guests to take part in, have everyone learn how to hula dance. It’ll be a fun and memorable part of your luau party theme.

Blossom Party

Nothing says “spring is here” like flowers blossoming everywhere. Celebrate the return of colorful flowers with a blossom party! Invite your guests over for a late afternoon tea and decorate the room with different types of flowers. Create centerpieces and other decorations with fresh flowers.

If you’re feeling like a creative baker, try your hand at buttercream flower cupcakes! It can be something you serve to your guests or an activity everyone can take part in. Just make sure to have everything prepared ahead of time. Nobody wants to wait for cupcakes to finish baking while at a party.

Sundae Extravaganza

Remember being a kid and wanting to make the most epic sundae ever? Well, now is your chance! Host a sundae extravaganza with all the toppings you can imagine. This is one of the best party themes to have during the summer, especially during the hottest months of the year. People will be dying to cool off with a frozen treat.

Have a sundae-making competition with different categories such as best, most colorful, or worst sundae. Make certificates to hand out to the winners.

Outdoor Movie Showing

Everyone loves sitting out on a warm summer night. Why not add some entertainment to the setting? Grab a projector, extension cord, and white sheet to set up in your backyard and watch a movie with your friends.

Have your guests vote for a movie to watch when you send out your invitation. Give them a few options of different genres and watch the one that received the most votes. Pop some popcorn and get some candy to munch on while you enjoy your summer outdoor movie party.

Kentucky Derby Party

You don’t have to live in Kentucky to enjoy the Kentucky Derby! Have your guests show up in fancy dresses and suits with large hats ready to bet on the horses. You can stream the races live or ignore the horses altogether.

No Kentucky Derby party is complete without a pitcher of mint julep. The signature cocktail is a must for this party theme. While there are some variations of the drink, it’s essentially three simple ingredients: bourbon or rye, simple syrup, and mint leaves. Choose your favorite to serve as you cheer on your favorite horse.

Mermaid Party

It’s time to live your fantasy of being a mermaid. Pretend to be a mermaid for a day and lay out by the pool with your favorite friends. Swim around and soak up the sun with this summer party theme. Braid each other’s hair into a mermaid braid to really embrace the theme. Don’t forget to make some fish food snacks!

All-American BBQ

The most classic of spring and summer party themes is an all-American barbecue. Fire up the grill and slap on some hamburger patties and hot dogs to enjoy with your guests. Have a cooler of beer and wine coolers ready for the taking. Prepare potato salad, macaroni salad, and homemade brownies before your guests arrive. Don’t forget the potato chips either!

Set up some backyard games such as corn hole or a ring toss for your guests to enjoy. Have everyone wear red, white, and blue to keep the spirit of America alive during your barbecue.

Which Will You Choose?

There are so many party themes to choose from when it comes to throwing a party in the spring or summer. It can be hard to choose just one! Remember, as long as you are with your friends and are having a great time, the theme of your party doesn’t matter.
